The Medway City Estate

Social network for businesses.

Is anyone else having problems with the travellers that keep moving round the estate?  Any ideas how to get rid of them easily as they seem to be coming our way again for the third time this year.  They park on land next to our car park and cause us loads of problems.

Travellers...... Don't get me started on that subject!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Tracey.

We have also had problems with travellers.

i suspect they could be the same ones that you are talking about.

We had them in our shop last week during which they told us to keep off 'Their' land!!

Over the past few weeks we have had excrement dumped outside our front door and there have been numerous incidents of abusive language etc.

Its all quite unpleasant and I am sure that you like me have enough to do running a business without dealing with this as well.

I reported this to the police and would suggest that you do the same as it is only through reporting these incidents that anything gets done.

I like most others on this estate want to see the estate flourish and general standards improve.

We should stick together on this issue and perhaps look at 24hour private security for the estate. If enough of us got together it would be affordable.

Lani

We had a visit from a security firm looking to take on this role for the estate. They are called AJP K9 Security and they plan to use security staff with dogs to patrol the estate. However they need to get enough people on board to be able to provide the service.

I have attached the document they sent me after they visited. It will of course have a cost associated with it, so everyone needs to buy in to make it work.

Yes we have had them parked on the edge of our land, but causing us loads of problems including using the side of the building as a toilet and taking our bins.  Although I kept ringing the police they said that there was nothing they could do until real damage was done.  Stewart if you could obtain a price for this security I am sure it is somethign we would be prepared to buy into if as you say everyone else does.

Tracey

If I remember rightly they were looking at about £30 per week per building, so in the case of shared buildings the cost would be divided into the number of companies occupying it.

The chap to contact would be Jason Raggett (jayraggett@msn.com

I have read the document and it sounds quite good to me in principle.

Do you think we could invite AJP to do some footwork round the estate next year to see if enough support can be obtained to make it feasible?

I have contacted Jason at AJP and will let you know when I get feedback.

Stewart

Thanks Stewart.

We break for Christmas today.

Happy Christmas everyone

All the best

This seems to be a problem every year at this time of year.

In the past the Chamber of Commerce have been able to offer advice on how to deal with the problem. The Chamber have offices on the Estate at Stirling House, Culpepper Close. 01634 311411

I contacted Jason of AJP yesterday and this was his reply:

Hi Stewart
Thank you very much for this, we are arranging another meeting with the
police in the new year as they seem very interested in being involved in this
scheme. Could you ask your subscribers if they could send me any details they
have on the security or safety issues on MCE and i will put these
forward in the meeting and put together a proposal....

Once again, his email address is: jayraggett@msn.com

Stewart

Hello everyone. I have had another update from AJP...

After speaking with the other directors, we will be attending the MCE to conduct a free security assessment on the night of the 7th January. we will attend the estate for twelve hours and will take video or
photographic evidence of any anti-social behaviour we come across, and if
necessary deal with the situation. we will also be attending the MCE on Friday
morning to talk to companies to see if they are interested in the proposal,
could you please let your subscribers know about this.

I will let you know if I hear anything further.

Stewart

Jason from AJP Protection has just left here.

I thought that what they propose to do sounds quite good.

Lets hope that they can get enough people interested to make it affordable.

I dont think 24 hour cover is going to be realistic in terms of cost but 12 hour from 6pm-6am possibly will be.

In the end its going to be down to numbers.

Regards

Lani
